I Am Right Here!

By Dee Davis | Divine Inspirations

Devotional focus - John 6:15–21 (NLT)

Main verse: “But he called out to them, ‘Don’t be afraid. I am here!’” — John 6:20

Life has its rhythms—highs and lows, calm and chaos. One moment we feel like we’re soaring, and the next we’re sinking under the weight of loss, confusion, or fear. Add to that a world that often feels cold and self-centered, and it’s no surprise we sometimes find ourselves crying out, “Where are You, Lord?”

In John 6:15–21, we see the disciples caught in a storm. The crowd had just tried to force Jesus to become king after He fed the five thousand. But instead of embracing their excitement, Jesus slipped away into the hills to be alone. Later that evening, His disciples set out across the lake without Him—and that’s when the wind started to blow.

Isn’t that just like life? You step out in obedience, you try to move forward, and suddenly the winds rise against you. The darkness closes in. You can’t see what’s ahead. And the worst part? It feels like Jesus is nowhere to be found.

But here’s the truth this passage reveals: Jesus saw them. Jesus came to them. Jesus was already on His way.

“They had rowed three or four miles when suddenly they saw Jesus walking on the water toward the boat. They were terrified, but he called out to them, ‘Don’t be afraid. I am here!’” (John 6:19–20, NLT)

Jesus didn't wait for the storm to stop before coming. He stepped right into the chaos, right onto the water, right into their fear—and He spoke the words every troubled heart needs: “Don’t be afraid. I am here.”

Believer, you are not alone. Whether you're grieving a loss, facing uncertainty, feeling overlooked, or even experiencing success that still leaves you strangely empty—Jesus is right there. Not just watching, not just aware, but present!

He sees you rowing against the wind. He knows how hard it’s been. He understands the pressure and pain. And still—He comes close. He whispers through the storm: “I am right here.”

So whatever you're going through, take courage. Don’t allow fear to speak louder than your faith. Don’t let the storm make you forget His promise. The winds may roar and the waves may rise, but Jesus walks on the water to get to you.

Let His presence calm your spirit. Let His words strengthen your soul. Because the One who commands the sea also commands your situation!

And He’s not going anywhere!

Something to think about...

  • What storm are you facing today?

  • Can you pause and invite Jesus into your boat?

  • Do you believe He’s with you even when you can’t feel Him?

A Prayer for You

Jesus,

When life feels overwhelming and I can’t see my way forward, help me remember that You are right here with me. Calm my fears, still my anxious heart, and remind me that Your presence never leaves me—even in the storm. I trust You to guide me, protect me, and carry me through every season. Thank You for being my peace.

In Your mighty name, I pray. Amen.

Scriptures to Hold On To Remember:

Isaiah 43:2 (NLT)

“When you go through deep waters, I will be with you. When you go through rivers of difficulty, you will not drown.”

Psalm 46:1 (NLT)

“God is our refuge and strength, always ready to help in times of trouble.”

Be blessed.
