Sometimes, when life becomes overwhelming, we need to tell ourselves to just stop! Stop overthinking, stop panicking, stop trying to carry everything on our own. Instead, we must pause, recalibrate, and realign our thoughts and actions with God’s truth.
We can become so consumed by work, relationships, illness, loss, fear, uncertainty, or doubt that we unknowingly invite anxiety and confusion into our lives. It’s easy to spiral into worry, feeling as if the weight of the world is on our shoulders. But we are not alone in this struggle—everyone faces these moments at some point. Even the Apostle Paul experienced overwhelming pressure and despair.
Apostle Paul openly shared his struggles:
“We think you ought to know, dear brothers and sisters, about the trouble we went through in the province of Asia. We were crushed and overwhelmed beyond our ability to endure, and we thought we would never live through it. In fact, we expected to die. But as a result, we stopped relying on ourselves and learned to rely only on God, who raises the dead. And he did rescue us from mortal danger, and he will rescue us again. We have placed our confidence in him, and he will continue to rescue us.”
— 2 Corinthians 1:8-10 (NLT)
Apostle Paul doesn’t hide his emotions. He describes the immense pressure he and his companions felt—so much so that they thought they wouldn’t survive. They were “burdened beyond measure, above strength,” a place of complete helplessness. But something shifted when they stopped relying on themselves and fully placed their trust in God.
Trust God When Fear Rises
Like Paul, we will face hardships, uncertainty, and moments that push us beyond what we think we can handle. But in those moments, you have a choice—will you spiral deeper into anxiety, or will you stop and trust God?
Here’s how you can shift your focus:
1. Just Stop and Surrender – Instead of letting fear take over, pause and surrender your worries to God. “Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you.” (1 Peter 5:7)
2. Remember God’s Faithfulness – Just as God rescued Paul, He is faithful to rescue you. Recall the times He has brought you through in the past.
3. Replace Fear with Truth – When anxiety rises, speak God’s promises over your situation. “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and love and a sound mind.” (2 Timothy 1:7)
4. Trust in His Power – We are not meant to carry burdens alone. Jesus invites you to rest in Him: “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28)
5. Move Forward in Faith – Trusting God doesn’t mean you won’t face challenges, but it means you don’t have to face them alone. You can walk forward in faith, knowing He will sustain you.
Prayer
Lord,
When life feels overwhelming, help me to stop relying on myself and trust You completely. Remind me that You are my refuge, my strength, and my ever-present help. Replace my fear with faith and my anxiety with Your perfect peace. I choose to surrender all to You, knowing that You will sustain me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
No matter what you’re facing today, take a deep breath, pause, and remember—you don’t have to carry it alone. Stop, trust, and let God take control.
Be blessed,
Dee Davis
