Focus Scripture:“
In the multitude of my anxieties within me, Your comforts delight my soul.” (Psalm 94:19, NKJV)
Life after 50 often brings a mixture of blessings and burdens. For many women, this season means adjusting to health changes, caring for aging parents, supporting adult children, or facing financial concerns. The weight of these responsibilities can stir up anxieties that feel overwhelming. The psalmist understood this when he wrote, “In the multitude of my anxieties within me, Your comforts delight my soul.”
Notice he didn’t say “if” anxiety comes—he acknowledged the reality of having many anxious thoughts. But he also declared that God’s comfort was greater.
My Testimony
There were days when I became bombarded with everything I needed to accomplish for the day, along with assignments that had strict deadlines. Additionally, family and financial issues became overwhelming. Anxiety seemed to follow me daily—even though I maintained my routine of praying in the morning and reading God’s Word.
Yet, I still struggled to settle my mind, control my breathing, and escape the feeling that the walls were closing in. Sudden bouts of crying, even sobbing, would overtake me, and I felt gripped by what seemed like doom. I wondered if I was under spiritual attack—or even losing my mind.
This was especially hard because I was the one people usually called. I was the one who ministered, counseled, and offered spiritual and practical advice. But in my private struggle, I felt alone.
The turning point came when I leaned more heavily on the power of God’s Word. I had to remind myself daily of what He promised. I carried a Bible in my car. I downloaded the Bible app on my phone and searched for scriptures to meet the very emotions I was feeling. Slowly, His Word began to comfort me and restore my perspective. I also opened up to my Apostle and to close family members for support. Without God, I truly believe I would have had a breakdown—but with Him, I found the peace that held me together.
God’s Peace Is Promised
When our hearts are restless, God invites us to exchange worry for His peace. Paul reminds us in Philippians 4:6–7 that we can bring everything to God in prayer, and in return, He gives us peace that guards our hearts and minds. This peace isn’t dependent on circumstances—it’s rooted in His presence.
Fixing Our Minds on Him
Anxiety often pulls our thoughts in a thousand directions. But Isaiah 26:3 promises, “You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you.” The more we fix our minds on who God is, the less power fear and uncertainty have over us.
Casting Our Cares Daily
Sometimes anxiety is like carrying a heavy load. God doesn’t ask us to carry it alone. Instead, 1 Peter 5:7 says, “Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you.” Every day, we have the opportunity to lay down our concerns and pick up His comfort.
Reflection for Women Over 50
This stage of life is not a season of decline but of deepening trust. Every anxious thought can become an invitation to draw closer to God. When fears about health, family, or the future arise, remember: His comforts don’t just silence anxiety—they delight the soul.
Prayer
Lord, when anxiety multiplies within me, remind me that Your comfort is greater. Teach me to cast my cares on You daily, to fix my thoughts on Your truth, and to rest in the peace that Jesus promised. May my heart be still, knowing You are God. Amen.
Stay encouraged and be blessed.
