Anchor Scripture:
“No, dear brothers and sisters, I have not achieved it, but I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead, I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us.”
— Philippians 3:13–14 (NLT)
Devotional Thought
Over the years, I have looked back over my life with a mix of gratitude, joy, and honestly—sometimes regret. Failures had a way of replaying in my mind like an endless recording. Yet I have come to realize that failure is not final. In fact, failure has shown me that I have actually tried! George Edward Woodberry once said, “Defeat is not the worst of failures. Not to have tried is the true failure.”
Apostle Paul writings reminded me not to get stuck rehearsing my past, but instead to press forward with purpose. Every misstep, every stumble, and every tear is part of a greater story of God’s grace at work in us. Women, we carry wisdom that comes from lessons learned, and those lessons are not wasted. There is still so much lifetime to live, so much purpose to fulfill, and so many opportunities to grow in Christ.
Stop rehearsing failures—and start rehearsing God’s faithfulness.
Supporting Scriptures
Isaiah 43:18–19 (NIV): “Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing!”
Romans 8:1 (NKJV): “There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus…”
2 Corinthians 5:17 (NIV): “If anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!”
Reflection Questions
What past failure do you find yourself rehearsing over and over in your mind?
How can you shift your focus from your past mistakes to the promises of God for your future?
What new thing do you sense God is calling you to pursue in this season of your life?
A Charge to Action
This week, write down one failure you’ve been rehearsing. Next to it, write the lesson it taught you. Then cross out the failure and circle the lesson. Keep the wisdom—release the weight. God wants you to move forward free from regret and full of faith.
Prayer
Father, thank You that my failures do not define me. Help me to release the weight of my past mistakes and embrace the new life You have given me in Christ. Teach me to walk in wisdom, gleaning lessons from my past while pressing forward with hope. Remind me that there is no condemnation in You, only grace and new beginnings. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Stay encouraged and be blessed.
