Finding Faithful Friendship in Every Season of Life
There is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.”— Proverbs 18:24
Throughout our lifetime, people come and go. Some are acquaintances, some are associates, and some are family. But there is something deeply comforting when you can say that someone has stayed close through the seasons of life. The older we get, the more we understand that not every relationship is meant to last forever, but the faithful ones are a gift.
For mature women, it is wise to do an inventory of the people we have allowed into our lives and to notice who remains. Some friendships are for a season, some for a reason, and some are lifelong blessings. The people who stay often reveal much about trust, character, and shared purpose. Their presence becomes a reminder that godly friendship is not measured by quantity, but by faithfulness.
Scripture gives us beautiful examples of this kind of loyalty. David and Jonathan shared a covenant friendship marked by sacrifice and commitment. Ruth clung to Naomi through grief and uncertainty. Paul also valued faithful companions who strengthened him in ministry. These relationships show us that true friendship is more than convenience; it is marked by loyalty, prayer, and presence, especially in difficult times.
Supporting Scripture
“Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends... I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends.” — John 15:13, 15
Still, the one relationship that should never be a question mark is Jesus. Human relationships may shift, disappoint, or fade, but Christ remains constant. He is the Friend who never leaves, never fails, and never changes. When others move away, He stays near. When our hearts grow weary, He strengthens us. When we feel alone, He reminds us that we are held by His love.
As we grow older, may we treasure the friends who stay, learn from the friendships that have shaped us, and keep our hearts anchored in the One who is truly closer than a brother.
Prayer
Lord, thank You for the people You have placed in my life and for every lesson learned along the way. Help me value faithful friendships, discern wisely who I allow close, and never take for granted those who remain. Most of all, thank You that Jesus is never a question mark, but my sure and steady Friend. Amen.
