Isaiah 26:3, says, “You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, all whose thoughts are fixed on you!”

This verse is a powerful reminder that our peace comes from God and not from our understanding or control.

Those thoughts mentioned in Isaiah are what we all struggle with from time to time which can lead to dangers when we live in our heads.  I am talking about overthinking.  Spending our days lost in overwhelming thoughts, worries, and concerns, and forgetting to live in the present.

I believe there are many people trapped in the prisons of their minds making it difficult to experience the peace and joy that God wants us to have.

Tim Keller, a respected Christian pastor and author, once said,

Quote: “Worry is not believing God will get it right, and bitterness is believing God got it wrong.”  Wow!

Avoid The Trap of Overthinking

Overthinking is a common trap that can lead us away from the peace that God promises. When we overthink, we often dwell on our problems, fears, and anxieties, trying to find solutions within our limited human perspective. This mindset can lead to worry and stress, as we feel the burden of trying to control outcomes that are ultimately beyond our control.  Yep, I have been there!

Keller’s quote sheds light on the spiritual aspect of this struggle. Worry stems from not just a lack of trust, but the lack of trust in God’s plan.  I am reminded that when I worry, I am essentially saying that I don’t believe God will handle my situation correctly.  Then bitterness has the potential to arise when I continue to look at my past and feel that God has failed me, thinking He got it wrong.  SMH!

Seek Out A Steadfastness in Your Faith

Isaiah 26:3 offers an amazing solution to this problem: steadfastness in faith.  "You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, all whose thoughts are fixed on you!" (NLT)

A steadfast mind is a mind that is firmly anchored in trust in God. It’s about shifting our focus from our limited understanding to God’s infinite wisdom and love. When our minds are steadfast, we are less likely to be swayed by the waves of worry and fear.

Trusting in God means believing that He is in control, even when our circumstances seem chaotic or hopeless. It means acknowledging that His plans are higher than ours and that He has a purpose for everything we go through. This trust brings peace that surpasses all understanding, as promised in Philippians 4:7.

Here Are Practical Steps to Building Trust in God.

  1. Prayer: Communicate with God regularly. Share your fears and concerns with Him, and ask for His guidance and peace.

  1. Meditate on Scripture: Spend time reading and meditating on God’s Word. Let His promises fill your mind and heart.

  1. Cultivate Gratitude: Focus on the blessings in your life. Gratitude helps shift your perspective from what’s wrong to what’s right.

  1. Community: Surround yourself with a supportive faith community. Sharing your struggles and receiving encouragement can help strengthen your trust in God.

  1. Mindfulness: Practice being present in the moment. Trusting God also means enjoying the present, knowing He holds the future.

Finally, living in your head will rob you of the peace and joy God intends for you. By trusting in God and keeping your mind steadfast,  you will experience His perfect peace!

Remember the message of Isaiah 26:3 and the thought of Tim Keller: trust in God’s plan and let go of the burdens of worry and bitterness. Strive to get out of your head and into the peace that comes from a steadfast faith in God.  He knows what He is doing!

Be blessed,

Dee Davis
