Still Being Led

Devotional:
Psalm 32:8–9 (NLT)
“The Lord says, ‘I will guide you along the best pathway for your life. I will advise you and watch over you. Do not be like a senseless horse or mule that needs a bit and bridle to keep it under control.’”
There comes a chapter in life when many women begin asking deeper questions. Questions like:
What now?
Where do I fit?
What is God doing in this chapter of my life?
For many women over 50, life can feel both full and uncertain at the same time. The children may be grown. Roles may be shifting. Relationships may look different. The body changes. Priorities change. Even the things that once motivated you may no longer carry the same weight. Yet in the middle of all those transitions, God gives a beautiful promise in Psalm 32:8:
“I will guide you along the best pathway for your life.”
Not just a pathway.
The best pathway.
That means God is not confused about your future, even when you are. He is not intimidated by your age, your disappointments, your delays, or the chapters that did not unfold the way you imagined. He sees the whole picture while we often only see the next step.
What comforts me most about this scripture is that God does not merely point from a distance and say, “Figure it out.” He says, “I will advise you and watch over you.” What a tender promise. God’s guidance is personal. Intentional. Loving. He watches over us as we walk.
Sometimes, however, we may resist His leading. Verse 9 warns us not to be stubborn like a horse or mule needing force and restraint to stay on course. That imagery is profound. Mature believers can still become stubborn when fear, disappointment, pride, or familiarity keep us from trusting God fully.
Sometimes we want God to explain everything before we obey Him. I see my face! Yikes!
Sometimes we keep holding onto old mindsets because they feel safer than surrender.
Sometimes we continue carrying burdens God has been asking us to release for years.
But God does not desire to drag His daughters into destiny. He desires willing hearts that trust Him enough to follow.
At this stage of life, many women are discovering that peace is not found in controlling every detail. Peace is found in staying close enough to hear His voice.
Supporting Scriptures
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding.” — Proverbs 3:5–6 (NLT)
“Your own ears will hear Him. Right behind you a voice will say, ‘This is the way you should go.’” — Isaiah 30:21 (NLT)
God still speaks.
He still leads.
He still directs His daughters with wisdom and compassion.
And perhaps one of the greatest blessings of maturity is learning that we do not have to know everything ahead of time to trust the One who does.
Reflection Question
Are there areas in your life where God has been gently leading you, but fear, comfort, or uncertainty has caused you to resist His direction?
Closing Prayer
Father, thank You for being a faithful guide through every season of life. Thank You that You do not abandon us to figure life out on our own, but You lovingly lead us along the best pathway for our lives. Forgive us for the times we have resisted Your direction out of fear, pride, hurt, or uncertainty. Soften our hearts and teach us to trust You more deeply. Help us to hear Your voice clearly and to follow You willingly. Strengthen every woman reading this today who may feel uncertain about her next chapter. Remind her that You are watching over her, ordering her steps, and walking beside her every step of the way. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Final Encouragement
Sis, you do not have to force your way into the future. You simply have to stay close to the One who already knows the way. God is not finished with you. This season is not punishment—it is preparation, positioning, and proof that His hand is still upon your life. Walk forward knowing that the God who led you before will faithfully lead you again.
Stay encouraged and be blessed.
