Focus Scripture Proverbs 19:20–21 (NKJV)
“Listen to counsel and receive instruction,
That you may be wise in your latter days.
There are many plans in a man’s heart,
Nevertheless, the Lord’s counsel that will stand.”
Devotional
Have you ever trusted God but only as long as He was doing what you wanted Him to do?
We pray, fast, and believe… yet secretly attach instructions, deadlines, and preferred outcomes. But when God doesn’t respond according to our agenda or script, disappointment can turn into frustration. If we’re honest, some even stop talking to God, stop listening, or stop obeying because the outcome didn’t match their expectation.
Think about it.
Have you ever become irritated with God for not agreeing with your plan?
The truth is this:
God is not obligated to prioritize our preferences. His wisdom is perfect. His motives are pure. His timing is flawless. And His sovereignty means He answers to no one, including us.
Proverbs 19:20-21 reminds us that, yes, we will have many plans in our hearts, but only His counsel will stand. God sees the whole picture, while we are living inside one tiny frame.
Every “no,” every delay, every redirection is tied to His divine intelligence that leads us to the best destination.
God does not need our opinions, negotiations, or emotional influence to be God. He invites us to trust Him even when His answer is not what we wanted. Because ultimately,
His plan is better than our preferences.
Supporting Scriptures
Romans 8:28 (NKJV)
“And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.”
Jeremiah 29:11 (NIV)
“For I know the plans I have for you… plans to prosper you and not to harm you…”
Isaiah 46:10 (ESV)
“…My counsel shall stand, and I will accomplish all My purpose…”
Reflection Questions
1. Have you ever become upset with God for not doing things your way?
2. What outcome do you need to surrender back into His hands today?
3. How might God’s “no” actually be protecting you?
Action Steps
✅ Release the timeline. Write down one thing you’ve been trying to force and surrender it in prayer.
✅ Listen intentionally. Spend 5 quiet minutes asking God what He desires, not what you want.
✅ Practice gratitude. Thank Him for the doors He didn’t open, that’s protection.
Prayer for today:
Father, forgive me for the moments when I was focused on my agenda and became frustrated because You didn’t move according to my desires. Help me to trust You not just when You say “yes,” but when You say “no,” or “not yet.” Teach my heart to submit to Your counsel, because Your plan is perfect. Harden me from disappointment but soften me to Your will. In Jesus’ name, amen.
Stay encouraged and be blessed.
