Pouring From An Empty Cup

Scripture:

Matthew 11:28 (NIV) – “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”

Devotional

This thing called life, has a way of pulling on us from every side, such as—family, ministry, work, health, and daily responsibilities. Some of us often give and give, until we’re running on empty. But Jesus reminds us that we were never meant to carry the weight of life in our own strength. True renewal begins when we come to Him. He is the well that will never run dry, the restorer of our souls, and the keeper of our peace.

Pouring from a cup, that is empty, leads to burnout, frustration, and spiritual weariness. But pouring from a cup filled by Christ leads to life, joy, and strength for the journey! Protecting your mental and spiritual health is not selfish—it is actually stewardship.

Supporting Scriptures

• Isaiah 40:29–31 (NIV) – “He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak… those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength.”

• Psalm 23:3 (NIV) – “He refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths for his name’s sake.”

• Philippians 4:6–7 (NIV) – “The peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

Reflection Questions

1. In what areas of my life am I currently “pouring from an empty cup”?

2. How often do I intentionally pause to let Jesus refill me with His presence and peace?

3. What boundaries or rhythms can I put in place to protect my mental and spiritual health?

Prayer

Father, I thank You for reminding me that I don’t have to carry life’s burdens alone. I come to You today, weary and in need of Your rest. Fill me again with Your peace, renew my mind, and refresh my spirit. Help me to establish healthy boundaries and remember that I can only pour out to others when I first sit at Your feet. Restore me so that I may serve You and others with joy and strength. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Stay encouraged and be blessed.
